Intro into Illinois

Illinois is the fifth-most populated state in the U.S. and it stretches from Lake Michigan in the north and the Mississippi River in the south. There is over 7,000km of scenic coastline, which makes it a perfect escape for those looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of Chicago, which is the biggest city in Illinois.

Nickname is the ‘Windy City’; Chicago is one of the world’s top cities. There are more than 50 languages spoken in Chicago, which makes it one of the most multi-cultural cities in North America. Chicago is one of the largest cities in the U.S. and a main hub for business and transport in the Midwest. It was the birthplace of the ‘skyscraper’ and Al Capone, who was the famous gangster from the 1920s during the prohibition days of the United States.

There have been three U.S. Presidents elected to the White House while living in Illinois. These Presidents include Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and Barack Obama. Abraham Lincoln is the only president to be buried in Illinois and today, Illinois honours Lincoln with the official state slogan, 'Land of Lincoln', which is displayed on its licence plates.
