Clubs and Pubs in Scotland

Edinburgh

With more than 700 pubs in Edinburgh and in a city of just over 500,000 it's an institution to drink in Scotland.

The Grassmarket, Rose Street, Royal Mile and George Street all have a good concentration of pubs and clubs where you can easily do a pub crawl during the afternoon. Some of these pubs in the Grassmarket include Biddy Mulligan's, the Last Drop, and The Black Bull where you can watch sports events. At night the Cowgate, which you need to be careful and the Royal Mile come alive with some of the best pubs in town. A couple favorite of ours for a bite to eat plus a drink is the Filling Station, which you will find on Rose Street and the Royal Mile. With so many pubs in town it’s hard to recommend a pub to go to. The atmosphere is lively and cheerful at most of the pubs, but the Advocate located on Blair Street just off the Royal Mile is very central and is a good place to start your night. Whichever pub you go to it's a good place to go to relax over a pint and talk about what other sights you are going to check out.

The Edinburgh club scene is good, but it is constantly changing. If you require information on which DJs are in town and what club they are playing at, we recommend the "The List" or the “Skinny”. The List is a fortnightly events magazine for Glasgow and Edinburgh available in newsagents for £2. Detailed listings and reviews include films, music, theater, dance, comedy, art and clubs. The Skinny is a new free magazine listing what’s on in the city of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Cabaret Voltaire

Located on Blair Street, Cabaret Voltaire is arguably the best club in Edinburgh, but with the way the club scene is in Edinburgh that could change next week. At the moment they are getting most of the nights and one of the most popular one is called 'Split', which is on every Tuesday night. On the weekend is when the bigger DJs come to town and the place gets packed out. For more information on what's happening at Cabaret Voltaire go to www.thecabaretvoltaire.com

The Caves

Located just off the Royal Mile on Niddry Street is The Caves. This is a popular venue for people looking to book out a venue for private parties, like weddings. It's been re-built and with a capacity of over 2000, it's ready to show Edinburgh what they were missing.
