Clubs and pubs in Finland

Helsinki

The best area for clubs and pubs in Helsinki is the Kallio district.  This is where you will find all the young people at the best places in town.

Kaarle XII
Kasarmikatu 40

Restaurant Kaarle XII, "Kalle", has been one of the most popular and the biggest Night Clubs in Helsinki since 1976. This Night Club has six bars on two floors. Upstairs you can dance to international top hits and downstairs is the place for Finnish pop music. Their most popular night is Thursday.

Readers of City -magazine have voted for the past 17 years for the top party places in Helsinki and Kalle is the only Night Club in Helsinki which has managed to hold its yearly position as one of the top three party places to visit. The dress code is smart – casual dress and there is no admission charge. I went to this club on a Thursday and I would definitely recommend it.  For more information go to www.kaarle.com

Artic Icebar
Yliopistonkatu 5

The Arctic Icebar is a chilling experience in a nightclub! Inside the Icebar the temperature is a constant -5 C. Upon entry to the Icebar guests are given a warm cape and gloves to wear. The entrance fee is €10 and it’s open till 4am on weekends. I went briefly, but wasn’t impressed with the music and crowd. For more information go to www.labodega.fi

Molly Malone’s
Kaisaniemenkatu 1

A popular Irish Pub located near the train station. It’s a great place for live music,     but it is a pretty small bar, so arrive early.

Sports Academy

Located across the street from the Train Station this is one of the most popular bars in town. It is busy most of the time and it’s a great place to go watch all your sports.

Studio 51
Fredrikinkatu 51

This is the only nightclub in Finland that has a VIP room that charges a yearly fee. It plays mainly hip hop music and it’s open till 4am.

Bar Vespa
Etelä Esplanadi 22

The Vespa Bar has a beautiful view over the Esplanade Park and is situated at street level. The bar offers a large selection of beers, good Italian wines and good food. Besides Pizzas, you can order pasta and salad dishes from the à la Carte menu, and of course the popular filled Focaccia breads. The bar serves the same buffet lunch on weekdays as the restaurant upstairs.

In the evenings the Vespa Bar is a popular meeting place to enjoy beer, wine, cocktails and snacks. In the summer season the terrace outside the bar is a very popular place, which on sunny days fills up quickly after working hours. Admission is free and it’s open till 2am on weekends. For more information go to www.ravintolavespa.fi

Black Door
Iso Roobertinkatu 1

Black Door is a genuine British Pub as there is a good selection of whiskies and beers. The specialty of Black Door is real ale, which is served from the cellar by a hand-pump.

Hilpeä Hauki
Vaasankatu 7

Hilpeä Hauki (The Cheerful Pike) is one of the five beer restaurants in Helsinki that are named after a fish. Hauki has recently been renovated, but it still has a pleasant, traditional air about it, in the style of a Dutch Bruin Café. There's an abundant selection of beers and ciders. Also, there is a huge whiskey menu to pick from.

Hauki is truly a pub for all seasons; in the summer the terrace is one of the hottest in town and in the winter, candlelight flickers from each table providing a fitting atmosphere to an evening of composed drinking. This pub is open till 2am and the there is no admission charge.  For more information go to www.delifox.fi
