Intro into Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef

Queensland is home to the Great Barrier Reef, which is the biggest reef in the world. The Great Barrier Reef is the most popular destination in Queensland and its so big that you can actually see it from space.

This state is also as known as the sunshine state as it receives over 300 days of sunshine a year, which makes it not only popular with international visitors, but also with many Australians from all over the country who flock here for its lovely year-round weather.

The two busiest and most popular cities in Queensland are the state’s capital Brisbane, which is near the New South Wales border. It's a lively city that has a fantastic nightlife and well situated around all the tourist attractions.

In the north of the state you have Cairns, which is the busiest amongst travelers as it’s the gateway to a lot of side trips. Here you can go white water rafting, diving in the Great Barrier Reef, bungee jumping or if you are feeling energentic you can go to Cape Tribulation, which is located two and a half hours  north of Cairns.

Cape Tribulation is actually a National Park, and has no real 'town centre'. This is where the World Heritage listed Wet Tropics Rainforest meets the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef and its the only place in the world where two such areas exist side by side. Whatever you are looking for you will find it in Queensland and for more information on this beautiful state read our other sections.
